Abstract

The most important speech disorder in schizophrenic patients with positive symptoms is incoherency which has a wide range, and is related to diverse factors such as hallucination and delusion. In this research, to find out the relationship between incoherency of speech with hallucination and delusion, the spontaneous speech of eighteen Persian-speaking schizophrenic individuals with positive symptoms was investigated. The correlation of two types of verbal hallucinations (variable and invariable) with two types of delusions (synchronic and diachronic), which have been identified during the research, was studied statistically. Subsequently the relationship between incoherency and delusions was calculated as well. The findings reveal that the incoherency in some patients is lasting, whereas in some others it is remarkably decreased. Status and quantity of the incoherency is related to the two above-named delusions, and each of these delusions could be related to the above-named hallucinations.
