Abstract

      The Confrontation of Iran and Rome   in the Sasanian era according to Šāpur Inscription on (ŠKZ)     Cyrus Nasrollahzadeh [1]       Received: 2011/09/16   Accepted: 2012/06/26       Abstract   The present paper is about the relation and the foreign diplomacy of Iran and Rome during the era of Šāpur I of Sasanian. This diplomatic relation which included three great wars, has been a considerable point of inclination in the history of Sasanian. Our source on information about these relations has been extracted from the Romans. But during the reign of Šāpur I an Inscription in 3 different languages on Kaʿba-ye Zardošt, in Naqsh-e Rostam of Fars was created, the writing on which has been ordered by Šāpur, himself. This inscription reveals an important source of information about the interior structure of Šāpur, his reign and his foreign diplomacy. In this inscription three wars with the Romans are explained, but in the Roman sources no sufficient propagation has been revealed.
