Abstract

The current research is conducted in a practical and descriptive-analytical method. This research has tried to investigate different attitudes and how affects can be appeared in the speeches of the opponents and supporters of the parliament in the general introduction meeting of the 13th government cabinet by using Martin & White (Martin & White, 2005) theory. For this purpose, the speech text of 8 supporters and 8 opponents of the generalities of the cabinet, which is in 150 minutes, is analyzed using this theory. First, we extracted the components of Martin and White's theory from the Language of Evaluation book (Martin & White, 2005) and after categorizing the components related to Iranian culture, we searched for those components in the words of both parties. In the next phase, we interpreted the components found in the words of the opponents and supporters in order to find out the type of attitude and rhetorical tools in both parties. The results of this study showed that the number of components used in the speeches of the opponents was 90 components of affects, 50 components of judgment «+», 293 components of Judgment «-», and 42 components of Appreciation. Also, the speech of the supporting side had 76 components of Affect, 299 components of Judgment «+», 85 components of Judgment «-» and 306 components of Appreciation. The results showed that even in the words of those who want to persuade the audience with a logical expression, affects are also shown.
