Lexicography for Dialects [1] :A Case Sstudy of Lexicography in Guilaki Jahandoost sabzalipour [2] SeyyedeFatemeh nikghohar [3] Received: 2011/04/30 Accepted: 2012/04/29 Abstract Iran is one of the countries where many languages and dialects are common from ancient times. But nonetheless with this linguistic diversity in the country; background research is not so old about the Iranian languages, essentially it does not exceed a century. In some cases research about some language or dialect has not been started and we do not have sufficient knowledge about them. One of the methods used to introduce a specific language or dialect, is compiling a dictionary. The History of lexicography in our country for the Persian language shows that in any way proper scientific method of lexicography is not used and this issue is very different in Iranian dialects, because it is not compiled as a dictionary for many dialects, or if it is compiled it is not usable for linguists and only a small number of speakers enjoy them. Compiling a dictionary which contains all words of a dialect and is usable for native speakers and linguists, requires principles which need to be followed to write a less trouble some dictionary. In this article I have tried to study some essential principles in the area of dialect lexicography. This study has been written for Guilaki language to show the importance of this work. It is also a pathological and case study in the field of lexicography.
